Job Description:
The Texas Dental Association is the third largest state dental
association in the U.S. TDA currently has 8,500 member dentists and
26 local component societies. The TDA is part of a tripartite
affiliation with the American Dental Association as its national
representative and its component societies at the local level.As
TDA's chief executive officer, the Executive Director manages the
affairs and operations of the association and its eight affiliated
organizations, which include charitable non-profits, for-profit
entities, and political action committees. TDA has an annual
operating budget of approximately $5MM with a total of 25 FTEs as
well as independent contractors and outsourced service
providers.TDA is governed by the TDA Board of Directors and the TDA
House of Delegates. TDA is the 15 th Trustee District at the ADA,
which holds a seat on the ADA Board of Trustees and is represented
at the ADA House of Delegates.Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:Executive Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage the personnel and operations of the TDA.
Supervise 9 direct reports.
- Plan and organize programs and utilize appropriate resources to
achieve the goals and objectives set by the Board, House of
Delegates, or other governing body.
- Provide support for all activities associated with the Board of
Directors, House of Delegates, and ADA 15 th District, including
staffing and operational support for all meetings, programs, and
functions.
- Manage the affairs and operations of the Texas Dental
Association Smiles Foundation; Texas Mission of Mercy, Inc.; TDA
Financial Services, Inc.; TDA Member Benefits, Ltd.; CE Concierge,
LLC; TDA Insurance Services, LLC; DENPAC; and TOHPAC.
- Carry out such other general responsibilities as may be
delegated by the officers and members of the Board.Membership
Services:
- Maintain effective relationships, which may include speaking
engagements, with dental and other health-related organizations,
both public and private, and see that the position of the TDA and
its members is enhanced in accordance with the policies and
objectives of the organization.
- Represent the TDA and the profession to national and state
organizations subject to approval of the Board.
- Oversee the marketing and promotion of the value of TDA
membership, the tri-partite, and organized dentistry through the
development, implementation, and communication of membership
programs and services.
- Oversee the providing of services and support to local
component societies including materials, guidance, assistance, etc.
as directed.
- Oversee TDA periodicals, books, technical publications, and
digital content including the design, advertising, and financial
stability. The Executive Director shall work in cooperation with
the Editor and Membership Director on TDA publications.
- Oversee all continuing education programs, including the
logistics for all online and in-person events.
- Oversee the management of the association management
system.Legislative/Regulatory Affairs:
- Oversee the state legislative and regulatory advocacy programs.
Monitor TDA political action committees. Review and provide final
approval of the ADA Political Action Committee's campaign
contributions in Texas.
- Monitor national advocacy initiatives through the American
Dental Association.
- Review and approve ADPAC campaign donations with designated key
action leaders.Finance/Operations:
- The Executive Director is responsible to the Board for the
administration of the Central Office and effective implementation
of all TDA programming.
- Oversee the financial management of the organizations,
including the development and implementation of annual budgets,
completion of annual audits, ensuring adequate internal controls
are in place, and that reporting and tax filings comply with
regulations and policies. Oversee and safeguard TDA's assets.
- Provide sound recordkeeping for TDA in accordance with the
association's record retention policy.
- Oversee and perform human resources functions. Establish and
maintain administrative and personnel policies and procedures.
Ensure TDA complies with employment-related legal and regulatory
requirements.
- Obtain maximum utilization of staff by clearly defining their
duties, establishing performance standards, conducting performance
reviews and maintaining a competitive salary structure based on
budgets adopted by the Board.Relationships:
- The Executive Director maintains relationships with the
American Dental Association, state dental society executive
directors, and component society officers and members.
- Establishes such relationships as the Board of Directors may
specify or as deemed advisable in the best interests of TDA.Ideal

- Salary: starting at $198,000 (negotiable)

- Bachelor's degree
- Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential or MBA
preferred
- 5+ years of experience in executive-level association
management
- Proven expertise in organizational leadership, financial
management, and operational excellence
- Experience in human resources and fundamentals of employment
law
- Proficient in Office 365 and online meeting technology
- Authorized to work in the US
